General description
Α1-Antichymotrypsin (α1-ACT) is also known as a serpin peptidase inhibitor, member 3 of clade A (SERPINA3). It is a 68 kDa serine protease inhibitor, secreted by the liver. It belongs to the serpin protease inhibitor superfamily. SERPINA3 is located on human chromosome 14q32.1.
Request
Human plasma α1-chymotrypsin has been used as a component in yeast extract peptone dextrose (YEPD) broth for biofilm dispersion assays.
Biochemical / Physiological Actions
Α1-Antichymotrypsin (α1-ACT) can block the functions of several serine proteases such as chymotrypsin and cathepsin G. It serves as a possible therapeutic target for endometrial carcinoma (EC). A specific inhibitor of chymotrypsin-type serine proteases. It promotes the polymerization of β-amyloid in vitro and in vivo. Plasma and cerebrospinal fluid levels have been found to correlate with the progression of dementia in Alzheimer’s patients and induce phosphorylation of the tau protein in neurons.
